W3 Algorand Hackathon

 W3 Algorand Hackathon

On April 27th, the Blockchain Laboratory, Faculty of Organizational Sciences (FOS), and the University of Florida collaborated to host the first blockchain hackathon named Web3 Algorand Hackathon.

Web3 Algorand Hackathon offered students the opportunity to create innovative Web3 business models and projects in sorts of different fields (healthcare, education, industry, banking, commerce, smart cities…), and design and develop NFT collections using blockchain technologies.

The goal of the Web3 Algorand Hackathon is for students to apply their knowledge and skills in creating new and innovative solutions using the programming languages PyTeal (Python library) and Reach (JavaScript library) on the Algorand blockchain platform. The Web3 Algorand Hackathon is an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience working with new technologies and to network with other blockchain experts.

The event started with an opening ceremony where the participants were welcomed by the management of FOS, Algorand, and UF. The welcome speech was given by:

  1. Sandra Jednak, Ph.D., vice dean for international cooperation, full professor at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences
  2. Stéphane Barroso, Algorand ARC Manager
  3. Marko Suvajdžić, Ph.D., Director of the Digital Worlds Institute, associate professor at the University of Florida
  4. Aleksandra Labus, Ph.D., Head of the Blockchain Laboratory, full professor at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences

The project presentation consisted of 8 teams from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences and the Faculty of Physics, as well as 5 teams from the University of Florida.

The panel of judges was Professor Dušan Barać, Professor Zorica Bogdanović, Stéphane Barroso, Darko Pavić (CEO and co-founder of Fiscal Solutions and Project owner of Ape School), and Professor Marcus Santoso, University of Florida.
