Ana Đilas: Application of Cloud and Blockchain Technologies in the Legal System

Graduate student Ana Đilas defended her master thesis with the title Application of Cloud and Blockchain Technologies in the Legal System

Abstract:

The field of research of paper is the application of cloud and blockchain technologies in the judiciary field. The first part of the paper will refer to the description of the current situation in the application of ICT technologies in the judiciary, to more precisely courts, public prosecutors’ offices, public notaries and public enforcement agents, as well as explaining the basic terms and concepts used in this area.

Through the research methods of literature on the topic of defining the term and technical characteristics of modern technologies such as cloud computing, microservice architecture and blockchain technology, as well as good practices in the application of these technologies in the European Union, then by analyzing the judicial processes themselves and the technologies applied so far in this field, the context of application of cloud and blockchain technology will be addressed. In this part, the work will also deal with the legal framework for the application of cloud computing and blockchain technology in judicial processes.

The second part of the work will deal with the development of methodologies for the recognition of judicial processes and their pairing with appropriate technologies, as well as describing specific models for the introduction of cloud and blockchain into selected judicial processes. Ways and challenges of implementing these two technologies in judicial processes of obtaining and exchanging data from official registers, as well as providing publicly available services for parties and citizens, will be addressed.

The introduction of cloud and blockchain technologies into judicial processes, with a previously methodological selection of processes in which these technologies would have the most effects, should significantly improve legal security by increasing the availability and reliability of the system, the consistency and immutability of data usage records, but also ensure long-term economic profitability of these systems.
